Could Your Lateral Knee, Hip or Thigh Pain be It-band Syndrome?

IT-Band Syndrome: What is it and how can one prevent and treat it?
Over-pronation may cause pain on the lateral (outer) side of the knee, lateral thigh, or lateral hip. This pain may be IT Band Syndrome. The degree of discomfort can range from a dull aching to a sharp stabbing pain, and it is usually not localized but covers a large area.
Treatment covers the 3 S’s - Stretching, Strengthening and Supporting, along with ice and rest have been found to be the simplest and most effective treatment for these types of injuries. A dedicated exercise regimine provides strengthening and stretching while support comes from a quality, proper fitting Orthotic Arch Support.
Stretching of the IT-Band, hamstring, piriformis and quad, and supporting the foot with proper fitting shoes and quality insoles can prevent or help to eliminate the vast majority of stresses on the lower extremity. Spenco’s Polysorb Total Support Insoles offer both cushioning for the heel and ball of foot areas while also giving the arch support necessary to relieve pain associated with over-pronation.

Foot Facts U Need to Consider Before Buying Shoes
Filed Under Insoles | Comments Off
Swati Guha asked:
The human foot is a complex body part that is not only responsible for our motion but also balances our entire bodyweight. The human foot is made up of 26 bones about 56 ligaments and 38 muscles. It is also a body part that is farthest from the heart and hence it needs to be treated well. Abusing the foot by wearing inappropriate footwear like platform shoes can cause irreversible damage to your foot and other parts of your body. Footwear like these shoes was essentially invented to increase the height of shorter or average height men/women; however, they soon became fashion statements and were abused.
Since the feet are situated so far from the body they receive less blood compared to other parts. With every step we take the feet absorb tremendous shock thus preventing the shock waves from traveling to other vital parts like the spine and hip joints. The feet are also prone to infections from bacteria and fungi which thrive in moist and warm surroundings created by the socks and shoes. Considering all these factors we need to take good care of our feet and equip them with the right footwear and platform shoes are certainly not the right ones.
So what do we do if we want to gain height and at the same time protect our feet? Well, there is a safe alternative - elevator shoes. Elevator shoes can increase your height while protecting your feet efficiently. The construction of elevator shoes is unique; on the outside the shoe looks like any other normal shoe with a normal heel. However, there is a height increasing insole inside the shoe that is made of tough yet comfortable shock absorbent material. The insole is 1 - 3 inches high. You gain height instantly and discreetly as the insoles are firmly stitched or glued inside the shoe and are not visible from the outside. The outer soles and the insoles of elevator shoes are flexible and not rigid as the ones you normally find on platforms. This ensures that your toes are able to propel your foot forward with every step and your foot lands on the heel.
Considering the above facts it is imperative that you use elevated shoes instead of platform shoes to gain height.

Tricks to Avoid Sore Feet
Filed Under Insoles | Comments Off
anonymous asked:
Are your dogs barking? If so, your feet must be sore. If you are on your feet all day or constantly up and down you may notice by the time you get home your feet are in pain. Some comfy shoes can make all the difference in the world. Another option would be to use arch support insoles to help ease the pain. Without enough arch support, you can end up with pain from fallen arches. Too much arch support will also cause you pain. Experimenting will help you find what works for you. The bottom line is, if you have achy feet, you need to do something about it.
Wearing arch supports won’t make your feet develop an arch. They just compensate for your foot’s lack of proper shock absorption. Flat shoes with no support can put your whole body out of alignment. You’re smart for doing something about this now. Try to preserve what arch you have, because it’s a good built-in shock absorber. Untreated foot problems can lead to even more problems later in your life, including bad knee problems like I developed or foot problems like bunions.
Aligned arches will help your feet; plus straighten and strengthen your back, improve posture, which in turn will lessen leg, knee and lower back pain. To get rid of really bad foot pain depends on what is causing the pain. Arch support insoles for your shoes are good if you have fallen arches. If you have flat feet like one out of every eight people have, insoles will help flat foot pain too. Activities that cause you to be on your poor aching feet for hours upon hours can feel better with some good arch support shoes. Try a foot massage. If your muscles are tight, this can work wonders.
Exercising your feet will help ease the pain. Try to stretch your feet few times a day. Wear comfortable shoes, use shoe inserts if you need them, choose an insole that absorbs shock but is not soft. When you are home, get a tennis ball and put the ball underneath your foot and rub it around on the floor. A nightly soak in Epsom salt will help rid foot pain. Your nightly foot soak might not be necessary if you wear the proper type of shoe to keep your feet comfortable during the day.
Your feet do a lot for you; can you imagine your live without your feet. Now, don’t your feet deserve the best?

i just bought this really cute pair of sandals with 4 inch heels, but i can’t wear them for long because there’s not much built-in support. i was looking on Dr. Scholl’s website and was wondering what kind of insoles would you recommend? or you can recommend another brand. it just has to be within $20, reusable, and can be worn with any kind of shoes, not just sandals.

Benard Worseley asked:
Used to treating biomechanical foot disorders, orthopedic devices such as orthotics, work to relieve pain by realigning and supporting the ligaments and bones of the foot properly, so that that foot can function as normal.
Otrthotics can be made of different materials and may have different pricing because of its effectiveness and ease of availability. Simple orthotics, like shoe insoles and gel heel cups are inexpensive and can be available almost anywhere. Over-the-counter orthotics, on the other hand, can relieve mild foot discomfort by taking excess pressure off of the sensitive area of the foot.
Depending on your condition, there is also a custom-tailored orthotics designed for your particular need. But how do you know if you may need an orthotic? Below are the following symptoms.
One side of the sole of your shoe typically wears out than the other side. Your feet point inward or outward abnormally when you walk. Frequent heel, ankle, knee, hip, and lower back pain. Frequently sprain or twist your ankle. Having a flat feet with a high arch. Crooked toes etc.
There are actually several symptoms and if you have one or more of these symptoms, you may be a good candidate for an orthotic device.
Footlogics orthotics offer effective, low cost and long lasting relief from foot pain problems. Developed by a European Podiatrist, Footlogics orthotics helps restore the ideal neutral position of the feet and help correct ‘over-pronation’.
By restoring our normal foot function, Footlogics orthotic insoles also helps re-gain natural body balance. Footlogics orthotics are the result of years of biomechanical research and development. They are designed to provide you with relief for many common foot ailments, whilst assisting in long term prevention of future foot problems and foot pain.

High Heels - You Know You Shouldn’t Wear Them
Filed Under Insoles | Comments Off
TheInsoleStore.com asked:
HIGH HEELS
Women know high heels are not good for their feet, and they don’t deny that they’re uncomfortable. But women will continue to wear high heels and you can mark it up to the price of beauty.
The truth is, feet are not made to wear heels. And you may be underestimating the damage that high heels can cause, beyond just having sore feet.
Not surprisingly, doctors of podiatric medicine (foot doctors) see no value in high heels, which they generally define as pumps with heels of more than two inches.
High heels are “biomechanically and orthopedically unsound,” according to the American Podiatric Medical Association.
Common ailments from wearing high heels include calluses and heel pain, bunions, hammertoes, nerve problems that cause shooting pain into the toes, ingrown toenails and even stress fractures.
Women also complain about such conditions as bunions, hammertoes, nerve problems that cause shooting pain into the toes; ingrown toenails; and even stress fractures.
Nail problems also are common from the constant pressure of toes being pressed against the end of the shoe. That can cause the nail to thicken and promote the growth of foul-smelling fungus. Plus, if a person has curved toenails, it can induce or exacerbate painful in-grown nails.
If you simply must wear high heels, then limit the time you wear them. Alternate between high heel and low heel shoes to prevent the Achilles tendon from tightening. Wearing flatter shoes or tennis shoes for walking long distances, such as to and from the office and then changing into your heels once you get to work. Use heels with a quality insole designed to provide cushioning and arch support to maintain proper alignment and balance.
Shop for shoes at the end of the day to accommodate the foot’s normal swelling.
Give your feet a nice massage or soak them in lukewarm water at the end of the day.
If you want to want to be good to your feet, then consider following the American Podiatric Medical Association’s recommendation - a walking shoe with ties (not a slip-on) worn with a quality insole such as the Spenco Polysorb Cross Trainer Insoles.
